Ginger & Birch
Shooting for Ashley's blog Ginger & Birch is always a fabulous experience. What began in a coffee shop as "hey, if you ever want pictures of your recipes..." has now become a quarterly event. Any blogger could benefit from observing Ashley's organization and preparation when it comes to our photo shoots- even for our very first one she had a detailed list of recipes, process and detail shots, images she needed to have room for text and all the food ready to go. I photograph the first dish or drink while she prepares and styles the next; and then there's the perk of sampling all the goods while I shoot... Her background in the world of fashion lends to her ability to think a season ahead and so we shoot her Spring recipes in the Winter, etc. -- all this to say I'm doing my best to learn from her example and plan ahead more in my blog-world.
Not only is this a win-win experience for both of us (I'm shooting something I love while she's styling something she loves and we're both eating the day away), we've got a comfortable working relationship that allows each of us to offer the other constructive criticism, advice, encouragement and the high-fives often needed to try new things. Fast forward almost two years from that coffee shop and we're sharing a studio space for those exact reasons (and to have a spot to host dance parties for our friends).
