The Glass Family | January 2k17

In addition to my 2017 goal of stepping in front of the camera a bit more, I'm challenging myself to share more personal snapshots of our family on a monthly basis. This is mostly a plot to get myself to actually edit our personal images instead of just throwing them on a hard drive but so long as I think the internet is holding me accountable, I should become none the wiser.

2016 turned out to be one of our most-traveled years to date. Though we hardly left the state, we had opportunity to explore the vast topographies and climates of our dear california and we soaked up every minute of it. Some super sweet family time for the three of us before we welcome this fourth member any day now. For personal work I try to shoot mostly film as it adds to my being more present and aware - I'm not just firing away at every little moment but more choosy about what I document and less distracted by my camera. And then we get to relive the whole experience when the film comes back a few days later. I 100% recommend it. below are some favorites from our time in sequoia, big bear, twenty-nine palms and joshua tree.

the mcguires | in home family portrait session pasadena

this mama is one of the best around. so genuine, so lovely inside and out. her kindness will melt you into a puddle and your four year old will covet her "elsa braid" every time you run into her. this little family of three (soon to be four!) welcomed me into their warm and musical home and gave a peek into their daily life. it's an intimidating thing, opening your home and giving free reign to someone else to document every nook and cranny. i never take for granted the trust that my clients give me as i step into their personal, safe space. christie expressed her hesitations about shooting in their home but as her husband's job will move them to oregon soon, she recognized the desire to document their time here in california as a family, to record the little spot they brought their newborn baby to. and i'm so glad they did. thank you for sharing this tender season of life with me, mcguires. xo

baby lewis | los angeles family portraits

oh man do we love these three. kait and i grew up just miles from each other in the same small town of east tennessee but had never met until our husband's respective creative pursuits brought us to sunny l.a. and what a special milestone to witness, the birth of a first baby, the beginning of a family. we couldn't be more in love with little lewis wolfgang (bangarang name, right?!), and can't wait to watch this little los angeles native grow. also, how stunning is kait especially in those black and white film images? what a classic beauty. thanks for sharing life with us, you three. xo
