The Glass Family | January 2k17

In addition to my 2017 goal of stepping in front of the camera a bit more, I'm challenging myself to share more personal snapshots of our family on a monthly basis. This is mostly a plot to get myself to actually edit our personal images instead of just throwing them on a hard drive but so long as I think the internet is holding me accountable, I should become none the wiser.

2016 turned out to be one of our most-traveled years to date. Though we hardly left the state, we had opportunity to explore the vast topographies and climates of our dear california and we soaked up every minute of it. Some super sweet family time for the three of us before we welcome this fourth member any day now. For personal work I try to shoot mostly film as it adds to my being more present and aware - I'm not just firing away at every little moment but more choosy about what I document and less distracted by my camera. And then we get to relive the whole experience when the film comes back a few days later. I 100% recommend it. below are some favorites from our time in sequoia, big bear, twenty-nine palms and joshua tree.

fiber artists rebecca + lisa | nashville tennesee

photographing artists in their studios is one of my favorite things. and oh man i had such a lovely time getting to know these two while shooting their shared space for the wool issue of STUDY. fiber artists extraordinaire, lisa of sonadora handmade and rebecca of camellia fiber co. are two of the kindest souls you'll ever meet, making some of the loveliest goods in nashville, tennessee.

love of jesu, love of people

When Ben and I had the wonderful experience of traveling Italy for three weeks back in 2011, our longest stay was in the city center of Florence. Spilling forth with some of the world's finest art and most delicious food, the city quickly became one of our favorites. Our tiny hotel was just a few blocks from the Duomo which served as a lovely and convenient compass whenever we felt like getting lost.
We had the privilege of attending mass at the cathedral one morning and while folks were ushering in, the kind elderly priest made his way down the aisle welcoming new and familiar faces alike. When he came to us, he simply asked where we were visiting from and what I did for work. I told him I took photos of people for a living and with an affirming nod he said "Yes. For the love of people. Love of jesu, love of people." It was enough to make me teary eyed and a beautiful confirmation that I hold dear especially during seasons like this one when things don't come as easily and I wonder if I'm pursuing the right things. A gentle reminder of where my priorities should be.

love of jesu, love of people.
